‘Coping With Success: Managing Overcrowding in Tourism Destinations’, written in conjunction with McKinsey & Company, explores the challenges of overcrowding in popular tourist destinations.

It highlights the uneven distribution of tourism's economic benefits and identifies five main challenges: alienated local residents, degraded tourist experiences, overloaded infrastructure, damage to nature and threats to cultural heritage. The report emphasises the need for a tailored approach to manage these challenges, suggesting best practices like building a comprehensive fact base, long-term planning, stakeholder involvement and innovative approaches to finance.

The report also offers practical tactics such as smoothing visitor flow, spreading tourists across sites, adjusting pricing, regulating accommodation and limiting access to sensitive areas.
