From the creation of skilled jobs to the preservation of cultural heritage, the cruise industry generates tangible benefits which enhance the livelihoods of people and communities across the globe. In 2024 alone, the industry supported 1.8 million jobs worldwide—over 1.4 million of them onshore—demonstrating its deep integration with local economies.

This report describes the many ways in which cruise tourism acts as a powerful driver of opportunity, creating long-term value in coastal and port destinations, and beyond.

Key elements of the report include:
