Report details

This WTTC report examines how tourism can drive social progress. It emphasises that economic development alone is insufficient for societal well-being. The Social Progress Index is introduced as a metric that complements GDP by assessing real quality of life. The report gives examples of tourism-driven urban regeneration, such as Expo '98 in Lisbon, which benefited local communities and the environment. It highlights the importance of sustainable tourism practices and collaboration among stakeholders to ensure that tourism contributes positively to social development and environmental preservation.
